Top 3 Smart Gadgets For Home Security

Smart gadgets bring forth a technology that automates certain aspects of our homes while being energy efficient in the process. Having remote and wireless access to devices in your homes, like the thermostats, the lights, even kitchen appliances like the oven is pretty great; and quite convenient as a matter of fact.

We tend to look at smart gadgets as a means to reducing energy consumption in order to strive for a greener lifestyle, while also wanting to have that modern, automated touch to our homes. Smart gadgets are almost always lauded for two reasons, but what people do not realize is that certain smart gadgets are great measures for home security as well.

When it comes to home security, our minds usually think of security systems with alarms, tapped windows, wired fences, and surveillance cameras. Contractual security systems that include installing panic buttons, sensors around all entry points of the house and sometimes a direct line to the security agency, can be quite expensive so not everyone can commit to that means of home security.

This is why we have three smart gadgets that prove to be great alternatives of home security methods. Read on below and see for yourself.

  1. Video Doorbells

When we talk about video camera doorbells, we mean smart video doorbells. Smart video doorbells are different from regular video doorbells. Regular ones have a camera yes, however, the doorbell can be answered via an intercom mounted somewhere in your home, that allows you to see and speak to whoever is outside, and maybe open the door latch with the press of a button – a latch that needs to be wired to the intercom device.

With smart video doorbells, you have the convenience of answering your door remotely and wirelessly. That means, see and speak to whoever is at the door from your smartphones from wherever you are – it doesn’t matter whether you’re at home, at work, standing at a red light five blocks away or in another city. Smart video doorbells allow you to access their video feed 24/7, and you can even get alerts whenever it detects a person or an object at your door even though the bell hasn’t been rung. If this doesn’t count as a security measure then what does?

  1. Smart Door Locks

Smart door locks can be the next big thing this decade. Imagine unlocking your front door the way scientists in movies open the doors to their top-secret laboratories. Safety level unmatched!

Smart door locks provide a keyless and tamperproof lock to your doors, making them impenetrable. Keys can be stolen from under your pots and mats, they can get lost and are easily duplicated, but locks can also easily be picked as well. With smart door locks, you can lock/unlock your door with a personalized code punched onto the lock keypad, or through your smartphone. These devices can be scheduled to auto-lock at specific times, while they can also automatically lock themselves whenever the door closes.

  1. Smart Cameras

What’s better than a regular surveillance camera? We’ll tell you, it’s smart cameras. But what’s the difference between smart cameras and regular surveillance cameras? Regular surveillance cameras usually have a screen set up from where you can view all the cameras’ footage. There is audio to the footage and the video is normally in black and white, with night vision that is not so great.

Smart cameras, on the other hand, allow you to view the footage from your smartphones, tablets and laptops – wherever you are, and at any time. The video quality is normally in HD so you can only imagine how clear night vision would be. But that’s not even the best part. Though smart cameras allow you to have remote and wireless access to your camera footage, the cameras sport two-way audio!

That means not only do you hear what’s going on in the video, but you can speak to whoever is at the other end of the camera. It’s a great feature to reassure your pet while you’re at work all day, and keep strangers out. The next time your neighbor’s dog walks into your yard to steal’s your garden gnome, you can scare it away just in time.

These devices also feature motion detection and can send real-time alerts to your devices while you’re away. Now tell us if this isn’t a great device for home security?
